How It Works: The Virtusphere consists of a 10-foot hollow sphere, which is placed on a special platform that allows the sphere to rotate freely in any direction according to the user’s steps. The sphere is equipped with a wireless receiver and built in sensors that interface with the computer running the simulation. Wearing a wireless, head-mounted display, the user is able to walk and run being immersed into virtual environment. The VirtuSphere enables 6 degrees of freedom – one can move in any direction; walk, jump, roll, crawl, run over virtually unlimited distances without encountering real-world physical obstacles. The movement by the user is replicated within the virtual environment. The Virtusphere will pick up your precise movements, and translate them to the simulation in real time.
